
Stakeholders report that oil and gas infrastructure in the Niger Delta is now better secured, leading to improved oil output since Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited (PINL) took over pipeline protection. At a stakeholder meeting, Director of Energy Security Ojukaye Flag-Amachree, represented by Mr. Young Harry Amachree, stated that PINL’s success is due to strong community engagement and alignment with the Federal Government’s mandate via the Office of the National Security Adviser.
The Director of Energy Services praised PINL for effectively securing pipelines, acknowledging their collaboration with communities and the success of the government mandate. He emphasized the national impact of pipeline security, noting that when oil revenues decline, it affects all Nigerians. He also mentioned that over 100 suspects have been prosecuted, with some serving prison terms.The Director of Energy Services assured continued efforts to tackle pipeline vandals, urging stakeholders to report any information on illegal activities. Engr. Akponine Omojevwe of NNPCL commended PINL for its role in improving output on the Trans Niger Pipeline, emphasizing that their success relies on collective collaboration.
He acknowledged significant progress over the past two years and urged PINL to continue its efforts.Dr. Kennedy West, President of the Movement for the Emancipation of Izon Ethnic Nationality, expressed confidence in PINL’s work, praising their engagement with 215 communities along the Trans Niger Pipeline. He called for an upward review of the contract with NNPCL to benefit the communities financially.
Dr. Akpos Mezeh, PINL’s Community Relations Consultant, highlighted the meeting’s purpose to assess the company’s activities and explore areas for improvement.PINL highlighted its success in protecting the Trans Niger Pipeline through community engagement, emphasizing efforts to combat pipeline vandalism.
They focused on social investments, addressing the drivers of oil theft, and restoring the environment damaged by crude theft. With near-zero infractions on the pipeline, PINL has increased crude production, boosted investor confidence, and ensured timely payments while prioritizing the safety of workers and local communities.PINL has fostered leadership in host communities through regular engagement and support.
