Nigerian regulators are jointly investigating an oil spill reported by Renaissance Africa Energy Co. Ltd, which halted shipments through its Okordia-Rumuekpe pipeline in Rivers State. The spill, first detected by a local environmental group, occurred early Monday in Ikata community. Renaissance, which operates the pipeline formerly owned by Shell, has suspended production and taken steps to limit environmental impact.

Renaissance Africa Energy is coordinating with regulators and the local community to investigate an oil spill in Rivers State, likely caused by third-party interference. Environmental group YEAC-Nigeria reported signs of vandalism at the site. The spill adds to the ongoing issue of pipeline sabotage and pollution in Nigeria’s Niger Delta, which continues to harm communities and disrupt oil production.

Fyneface Dumnamene Fyneface, a director at YEAC-Nigeria, stated that volunteers who inspected the Okordia-Rumuekpe spill site discovered signs of digging and deliberate damage to the pipeline.
