Join Friends of Detroit Animal Care and Control at Pet Supplies Plus for an afternoon of lifesaving adoptions. Dozens of incredible dogs will be ready to meet you and find loving homes. DACC has new dogs and cats available for adoption every day, so check back often if you don’t see what you are looking for.

She easily adapted to life with dogs and other pet siblings, including a cat she loves to wrestle with, and a free roaming iguana. Every single day since she came home, she makes her people smile with her spunky, goofy personality, and she has thrived with the challenge of being a trainer’s dog. She knows many tricks and behaviors, loves going paddleboarding and hiking, and she holds multiple AKC titles, including her Canine Good Citizen certification. Detroit’s dogs and cats are riding in style, thanks to the Friends of Detroit Animal Care and Control (DACC) Bark Bus! Once a humble school bus, this transformed pet transport now serves as a lifeline for the city’s animals, offering free rides to essential veterinary services and rescue opportunities.

Shelter Space

Join Friends of Detroit Animal Care and Control for an adoption event at Magoo’s Pet Store. Join other pet owners and prospective pet owners to ask questions, share tips and support, and learn together, in a fun and casual setting. There is a new topic, free dog and cat food, and access to free spay/neuter services each session. Join us for Detroit Pet People, a community meetup designed for pet owners and aspiring pet owners. This is a space to ask questions, share advice, and learn together while connecting with others in Detroit who care about animals.

Adopt a Pet

He’s a complete joy every day and brings so much love and silliness to my life. I’m blessed to be his service person and shepherd him through life. Together we make a great team and I’ll continue to protect and take the best care of him. I’m forever grateful to DACC for rescuing him so our paths could cross. After fostering her for a few months and seeing her slowly come out of her shell, there was no way we could let her go. So we officially adopted her and made her a part of our family.

He had a special way of showing his love, often settling right onto volunteers’ laps as if he couldn’t get close enough. Sir was one of the last residents of the shelter’s previous location, and his journey took a positive turn when he was welcomed by one of DACC’s dedicated transfer rescue partners. Provide a calm and quiet environment, let them sleep uninterrupted in their own designated sleeping spot, and establish a consistent routine for feeding and potty breaks. Keep them separate from any other pets, and limit introductions to only household members. Giving your pet time to feel secure in their new space will put them on the right path.

In cases of lost pets, we work diligently to reunite them with their families swiftly, ensuring that the joy of being together is never lost. Come meet adoptable dogs who are ready to find their loving homes! Whether you’re looking to add a furry friend to your family or just want to stop by and show your support, we’d love to see you there. Bring your kids to escape into the magical world of storytime at the Detroit Public Library Main Branch as our lovable shelter dogs lend a furry ear to listen as your child reads with them. It’s a fantastic opportunity to bring joy to these adorable pups while fostering a love for reading in our community. When adopting a dog, people often want to know their potential pet’s breed.

If you are fostering a pet from DACC, there is no appointment necessary. Pets that have been adopted from DACC may be returned within 30 days of adoption. If it has been more than 30 days, please call to make an appointment for surrender. For all other owner surrenders in Detroit, please contact Michigan Humane. Overpopulation leads to more animals in shelters struggling to find homes. Spaying and neutering your pets are the most effective ways to prevent unwanted litters.
