The African Energy Chamber (AEC) supports the West African Energy Summit (WAES), set for November 18-19, 2025, in Aberdeen, Scotland. The event fosters collaboration between African and global partners to drive investment in Africa’s energy sector.

Hosted with Ghanaian energy institutions, WAES connects technology providers, innovators, project operators, and financiers. Held in Scotland’s “oil capital,” it aims to strengthen Africa-Scotland oil and gas ties while attracting foreign investment and technological advancements.Africa presents prime investment opportunities across mature and emerging hydrocarbon markets.

Angola plans a 2025 licensing round, Nigeria held an international bid in 2024, and Libya aims to boost output to two million barrels per day. These markets need capital and technology, offering opportunities for Scottish and European firms. Emerging markets like Namibia, Zimbabwe, Senegal, and Mauritania also show promise, with Namibia targeting first oil by 2029 and LNG production expanding in West Africa.Africa is advancing oil and gas development while embracing decarbonization for a just energy transition, incorporating diverse energy sources.

Aberdeen, a global hub for oilfield technology, plays a key role in supporting Africa’s energy and sustainability efforts. Its expertise in offshore technologies and energy management makes it a vital partner. The West African Energy Summit (WAES) will highlight innovations in AI, data analytics, and predictive maintenance, focusing on efficiency, cost reduction, and sustainable field development to support Africa’s balanced energy transition.

African leaders must unify their energy transition strategy, highlighting oil and gas’s key role in achieving net-zero emissions. NJ Ayuk, AEC Executive Chairman, emphasizes that with global partnerships, modern technology, and investment, Africa can reduce emissions while ensuring energy security.
