Enugu Government set to unveil state airline, CNG buses, and smart transport initiative in May.

The Enugu State Government is set to launch key transportation projects before its second anniversary on May 29, 2025. These include a state airline, Enugu Air, which will debut with three aircraft (two already in the state), a fleet of 100 CNG-powered buses, and a smart transport program. The state aims to begin commercial operations of Enugu Air before the anniversary. Additionally, 50 CNG buses have been acquired, with another 50 expected soon.

This was announced by the Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Obi Ozor, following a State Executive Council meeting.Enugu State has acquired 50 CNG-powered buses for its mass transit program, with another 50 arriving soon, all set to begin commercial operations before May’s end. Additionally, five ultramodern bus terminals will be inaugurated at Holy Ghost, Gariki, Abakpa, and Nsukka. The state also plans to establish a CNG and electric vehicle manufacturing plant to support the clean-energy mobility transition. These projects aim to improve transportation and passenger convenience across the state.

The Enugu State Government also plans to roll out the Enugu Smart Transport Programme within the next 150 days. This initiative aims to improve route optimization, digitize ticketing, and incorporate over 2,000 electric vehicles into the transport network, supporting the administration’s sustainability and digital transformation objectives.
