Ukraine’s parliament ratified a deal with the US granting access to the country’s natural resources, supporting President Zelensky’s efforts to strengthen ties with Donald Trump. The agreement, reached after extensive negotiations, saw the US drop its demand for reimbursement of aid to Ukraine since Russia’s invasion.
A total of 338 lawmakers approved the deal, which provides the US with privileged access to new investment projects in Ukraine.Ukraine’s Parliament ratified the historic Economic Partnership Agreement with the United States.The deal, considered crucial for gaining Trump’s support in efforts to end Russia’s war, would allow the US to access licensing revenues from the future development of Ukraine’s aluminum, graphite, oil, natural gas, and other resources.
With Russia advancing along a 1,000-kilometer frontline, Kyiv has aimed to repair its relationship with Trump after his administration previously pushed for a ceasefire favorable to Moscow. The agreement also includes provisions for the US to contribute future military aid to a joint investment fund.
