Industrial clusters in Nasarawa State are preparing to access gas from the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) pipeline to reduce production costs. NNPCL CEO Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari reported that the AKK project was 72% complete as of Q1 2025. Nasarawa Governor Abdullahi Sule confirmed plans to connect the state to the pipeline, drawing inspiration from the gas-powered industrial base in Sagamu, Ogun State. The Governor shared this during a roundtable event on renewable energy growth in Nasarawa’s electricity market.

Governor Abdullahi Sule stated, “I am waiting for the AKK pipeline to be completed. Nasarawa State has developed a dedicated region for gas supply to enable power generation in the area.”He noted that while some lithium processing companies have recently set up operations in the state, all raw lithium from Nasarawa had previously been processed in Sagamu due to its reliable power supply.

The governor acknowledged that Nasarawa is rapidly transitioning from being known for solid minerals to becoming a hub for lithium production. He also highlighted the commissioning of the largest lithium factory in the state by President Bola Tinubu, with an annual capacity of 3 million metric tons.
