He highlighted its alignment with President Tinubu’s vision to address Nigeria’s energy debt crisis and reform the power sector.

Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, ECN DG, emphasized that the N10 billion solar power project is a key solution to Nigeria’s energy debt crisis, with federal institutions owing N47.1 billion in energy liabilities. He highlighted the project’s potential to reduce electricity tariffs, create jobs, empower entrepreneurs, and bring power to rural areas.

Abdullahi urged Nigerians to focus on the long-term benefits, including a nationwide energy revolution, clean electricity, and the country’s transformation into a renewable energy leader.Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Tinubu, defended the controversial N10 billion solar power project for the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, citing global examples like the White House’s solar integration.

While some view the project as a step toward sustainable energy, critics argue that investing such a large sum in solar infrastructure for the government seat is excessive, given the widespread lack of reliable electricity in the country.
