What is the current oil production rate of the USA?

The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) projects the U.S. will produce 13.45 million barrels of crude oil per day in Q2 2025. Of this, 11.23 million barrels will come from the Lower 48 states (excluding the Gulf of America), 1.81 million barrels from the Federal Gulf of America, and 0.41 million barrels from Alaska.

In Q1 2025, U.S. production averaged 13.35 million barrels per day.In Q2 2024, the U.S. produced 13.23 million barrels of crude oil per day, with 11.01 million barrels from the Lower 48 states, 1.80 million barrels from the Federal Gulf of America, and 0.42 million barrels from Alaska.

In Q1 2024, production averaged 12.94 million barrels per day, with 10.73 million barrels from the Lower 48 states, 1.78 million barrels from the Federal Gulf of America, and 0.43 million barrels from Alaska.

The EIA’s April STEO projects U.S. crude oil production to average 13.51 million barrels per day in 2025 and 13.56 million barrels per day in 2026. Production is expected to reach 13.56 million barrels per day in Q3 2024 and 13.67 million barrels per day in Q1 2025, with slight fluctuations throughout 2026.

The Lower 48 states (excluding the Gulf of America) are expected to contribute 11.28 million barrels per day in 2025 and 11.29 million barrels per day in 2026. The Federal Gulf of America will contribute 1.80 million barrels per day in 2025 and 1.83 million barrels per day in 2026, while Alaska is expected to contribute 0.42 million barrels in 2025 and 0.44 million barrels in 2026.

In 2024, U.S. production averaged 13.21 million barrels per day.The EIA’s latest STEO projects global crude oil production at 76.52 million barrels per day in Q2 2024. The U.S. is expected to produce 13.45 million barrels per day in the same period, accounting for 17.57% of global output.

For 2025, global production is projected at 77.08 million barrels per day, with the U.S. contributing 13.51 million barrels per day, or 17.52%. In 2026, global production is expected to reach 77.82 million barrels per day, with U.S. output at 13.56 million barrels per day, representing 17.42% of global production.

The quarterly breakdown shows global production rising throughout 2024 and 2025, reaching 78.10 million barrels per day in Q4 2025.

The U.S. has reached a monthly crude oil production of 13 million barrels per day or more on 17 occasions, with 5 instances in 2023, 11 in 2024, and 1 in 2025.

The highest monthly production occurred in December 2024 at 13.451 million barrels per day. In 2024, the annual average production was 13.209 million barrels per day, marking the first time the U.S. averaged 13 million barrels per day, surpassing the 2023 average of 12.935 million barrels per day.
