
The Nigerian Institution of Petroleum Engineers (NiPeTE), a division of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, has announced its rebranding to the Nigerian Institute of Petroleum and Gas Engineers. This strategic move aims to enhance professionalism and boost growth in the oil and gas sector.
Chairperson Engr. Prisca Kanebi shared the update at a media briefing in Lagos, emphasizing the Institute’s renewed focus on contributing to national development through professional excellence and collaboration with academia and industry stakeholders.
Engr. Prisca Kanebi announced that the Nigerian Institution of Petroleum Engineers (NiPeTE) has officially updated its name with the Corporate Affairs Commission and gained approval from the National Technical Board for its certification programs.
Additionally, the Institute’s bill has passed its second reading in the National Assembly, with a public hearing date to be announced soon. She encouraged all petroleum engineers, both in Nigeria and abroad, to register via www.nipete.org.ng. Kanebi highlighted that becoming a statutory body will enhance the Institute’s role in national development and dismissed a recent disclaimer from a group attempting to challenge the Institute’s leadership.
Engr. Prisca Kanebi clarified that the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) is not involved in the misinformation being spread by certain individuals acting in bad faith. She noted that the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), a non-statutory body, acted based on limited information, which can be challenged in due course.
Kanebi emphasized that the Institute’s leadership—including its Board of Trustees, Governing Council, Executive Committee, and diaspora members—remains united and committed to its mission, urging the public to stay vigilant.
She described the ongoing issues as politically motivated attempts to disrupt the Institute’s progress and affirmed there is no internal conflict within the industry.She also listed the members of the Executive Committee and zonal coordinators leading the Institute through its transition, highlighting a diverse and experienced team dedicated to professional advancement.
