The Federal Government has commissioned the first phase of a 400kW solar power plant at Yobe State University Teaching Hospital to boost healthcare services, cut costs, and support renewable energy goals under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The 400kW solar plant at Yobe Teaching Hospital is part of a phased project set to expand to 1MW, aiming to power critical medical services with clean energy.

Minister Adebayo Adelabu said it reflects the FG’s commitment to sustainable energy, aligned with the Electricity Act 2023, which supports off-grid solutions and private sector investment for remote areas.

The initiative also serves as a model for renewable energy use in health and education sectors nationwide.Minister Adelabu emphasized that renewable projects like the 400kW solar plant will help Nigeria meet its climate goals and reduce emissions, with plans to scale it to 1MW and replicate nationwide.

Yobe Governor Buni, through his deputy, praised the initiative for lowering hospital costs and supporting the state’s growing healthcare infrastructure, including YOCHMA and hospital upgrades.Yobe’s Health Commissioner, Dr. Muhammad Lawan Gana, stated the solar power project will enhance services at the Senator Mamman Ali Maternal and Child Health Complex by ensuring continuous operation of critical medical equipment.

The initiative highlights federal-state collaboration and is part of a broader effort to deploy renewable energy in hospitals, schools, and public institutions, creating jobs and encouraging private sector investment. Additional solar projects are planned for regions with limited grid access.
