The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has restored power to Bayelsa and parts of Rivers states through the 132kV Owerri-Ahoada transmission line, which was disrupted by vandalism.
The line was reconnected to the national grid on April 11 after an intensive reconstruction effort, following the collapse of four critical towers due to vandalism on March 11.The collapse of four towers had disrupted power to Bayelsa and parts of Rivers, leaving many communities in darkness. TCN’s restoration allows PHEDC to resume supply to these areas.
TCN reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s transmission infrastructure and urged communities to protect power assets, warning that continued sabotage harms national progress and causes hardship for citizens. In March, TCN reported the vandalism and collapse of four towers (T171-T174) on the Owerri-Ahoada 132kV line.
The damage was discovered after a failed reclosure prompted a patrol. Restoring the line stabilizes power in key South-South areas, crucial to Nigeria’s economy. Vandalism of power infrastructure remains a major issue, disrupting supply and incurring high repair costs.
