Eni has increased gas supply from the offshore Baleine field to support Côte d’Ivoire’s power generation, providing up to 70 million cubic feet per day.
The field has also reached an oil production peak of 60,000 bpd, up from 20,000 bpd in the first phase.Eni’s Baleine field, Africa’s first net-zero upstream project, uses advanced tech to cut emissions.Initiatives include distributing clean cookstoves to 600,000 people and restoring 14 forests.
Phase 2, launched last year, raised gas capacity to 70 MMcfd, using FPSO Petrojarl Kong and FSO Yamoussoukro for oil export, with gas supplied via a Phase 1 pipeline.Eni launched Baleine Phase 2 on Dec 28, 2024, and is studying Phase 3 to boost output to 150,000 bpd of oil and 200 MMcfd of gas.Baleine, declared Ivory Coast’s first major hydrocarbon find since 2001, holds an estimated 1.5-2 billion barrels of oil and up to 2.4 Tcf of gas.On March 7, 2024, Eni announced Calao, the country’s second-biggest hydrocarbon discovery, with up to 1.5 billion barrels of oil equivalent.
Eni now operates 10 offshore blocks in Ivory Coast after acquiring four new ones: CI-504, CI-526, CI-706, and CI-708.Baleine is in CI-101, while Calao is in CI-205. The other blocks are CI-401, CI-501, CI-801, and CI-802.
