Rome, Italy – Romelu Lukaku has opened up about his experiences in England and Italy, contrasting the public perception of him in both countries.

Lukaku: "They Called Me Lazy in England, a Worker in Italy"

The Belgian striker claims he was unfairly labeled as “lazy” during his time in England, a notion he strongly refutes.

“In England they had the wrong idea. For them, I was lazy. But I never reacted to the attacks. I’m someone who does his job and goes home,” Lukaku stated in an interview with Corriere dello Sport, as reported by Mail Sport.

He contrasted this perception with his experience in Italy, where he feels appreciated for his work ethic. “In Italy, the opinion is reversed, here I’m a worker,” he said.

Lukaku also asserted that he is currently in better physical condition than during his previous stint at Inter Milan. “Now I’m better than when I was at Inter. There I was 101kg, at Napoli now, 99kg,” he revealed. This highlights his commitment to maintaining peak fitness and contributing effectively to his team.

Lukaku’s comments shed light on the challenges faced by players in adapting to different footballing cultures and the impact of public perception on their careers.
