Qatar has started supplying natural gas to Syria through Jordan, supporting the interim government after Bashar al-Assad’s fall.Around 2 million cubic meters per day will flow via the Arab Gas Pipeline, adding 400 megawatts to the power grid.

Approved by Washington, this deal boosts recognition for Ahmed Al-Sharaa’s government and is expected to double Syria’s daily power supply from two to four hours, easing energy shortages. The UK delisted Syria’s central bank and 23 entities from sanctions.

Qatar’s gas supply route remains unclear due to war-damaged infrastructure, while Jordan’s only LNG storage will be leased to Egypt from mid-2025.Syria’s power supply depends on boosting output at the Deir Ali station, according to Qatar News Agency.

This marks the first phase of a deal between Qatar Fund for Development and Jordan’s Energy Ministry, with UNDP overseeing implementation. The interim government aims to replace halted Iranian oil imports after Assad fled in December.
