NNPC JV secures 20-year gas supply deal for Ssonic LNG plant.

Ssonic Petroleum awarded NNPC JV a 20-year contract to supply 80 million standard cubic feet of gas daily to its LNG plant in Lekki. The deal, involving NNPC Gas Marketing and NIPCO Gas, supports domestic gas use, industrial growth, and cleaner energy.NNPC reports Nigeria’s gas production at 7.4 billion cubic feet per day. It owns 49% of Nigeria LNG, which produces 22 million metric tons of LNG annually..

Expanding infrastructure under the “Decade of Gas” initiative, NNPC is investing in mini-LNG projects, holding stakes in three of five plants under construction in Kogi State.The Gasnexus/NGML small-scale LNG plant will start with a 7.5 MMSCFD facility using the Oben-Ajaokuta pipeline to serve northern customers.

NNPC also signed a deal to build a 100 MMSCFD gas distribution facility in Kogi to support LNG, CNG, and other gas needs in Ajaokuta.NNPC signed a 10-year deal to supply A4E Energy with 5 MMSCFD for its CNG facility and stations.

Meanwhile, UTM Offshore received government approval for Nigeria’s first floating LNG plant, set to produce 2.8 million metric tons annually from the Yoho field, boosting gas utilization for export and domestic use.In 2024, NNPC signed a deal with Golar LNG to develop a floating LNG facility in Nigeria. The project will use 400-500 MMSCFD of gas from the Niger Delta to produce LNG, LPG, and condensate, with production set to begin in 2027.
