Halliburton and Sekal launched the first automated on-bottom drilling system, integrating LOGIX™, Drilltronics®, and rig automation.Halliburton and Sekal successfully deployed an autonomous on-bottom drilling system for Equinor on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.

The closed-loop control solution integrates automated directional drilling, wellbore hydraulics, and dynamic rig equipment control, optimizing drilling parameters in real time with a single button push.

The system enhances well placement and safety using real-time subsurface, fluid, and pressure models, combined with smart directional drilling tools and rig automation.Josh Sears, Halliburton’s SVP of Drilling and Evaluation, highlighted the achievement as a breakthrough in drilling automation.

Sekal CEO Jarle Vaag emphasized the proven benefits of integrated automation. The solution features LOGIX orchestration, auto steer, vibration mitigation, hole cleaning optimization, and Sekal DrillTronics safeguards.
