NNPCL to Speed Up Gas Projects for Power and Clean Cooking Fuel

NNPCL is ramping up gas production and infrastructure investment to improve electricity access and clean cooking fuel in Nigeria. According to Group CEO Mele Kyari, over 70% of Nigerians lack clean cooking fuel, while more than 50% lack reliable electricity.

Speaking at the 2025 Nigeria International Energy Summit, he highlighted Nigeria’s role as Africa’s top oil and gas producer and its potential to support the global energy market.

NNPCL GCEO Mele Kyari emphasized Nigeria’s role as Africa’s top oil and gas producer, stating that oil will remain crucial, contributing over 39% of global demand in 2025. Speaking at the 2025 Nigeria International Energy Summit, he stressed that gas is not just a transition fuel but a sustainable alternative.

Nigeria is prioritizing infrastructure, regulations, and incentives to harness gas for energy access and economic growth, with gas infrastructure seen as key to driving a trillion-dollar economy.Nigeria is set to lead Africa’s natural gas potential, with NNPC boosting supply and infrastructure for domestic industries.

Reforms driven by fiscal incentives from President Tinubu’s Executive Order have spurred FIDs and renewed global investor confidence.
