EU plans full Ukraine power market integration by 2027, with aid for gas and renewables, announced at Kyiv summit.The EU says Ukraine’s full power market integration by 2027 depends on meeting commitments under the Ukraine Plan and Energy Community, including legal and regulatory reforms and support for vulnerable households.Earlier, the EU signed a deal with Moldova to cut reliance on Russian energy and join the EU market, backed by a €250 million support package for 2025.
Long-term EU aid aims to boost Moldova’s energy security, drive reforms, and phase out Russian energy, the Commission stated on February 4.
Ukraine and Moldova, synchronized with the EU power grid since 2022, will fully integrate by late 2025, said EU chief von der Leyen.The EU pledged gas purchase aid via the €50 billion Ukraine Facility (2024-27) to boost regional energy security.Von der Leyen highlighted Ukraine’s vast gas storage near the EU.
The EU will invest in 1.5 GW of renewables via the €50B Ukraine Facility, boosting capacity by 25%. With half of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure destroyed, full energy independence is crucial, the Commission said.Ukraine’s energy integration ensures security and enables reconstruction, the EU said. It provided €2B in energy aid via various funds and seized Russian assets.
