OPEC has urged Nigeria to show commitment and capacity to meet its oil and gas targets.Board Chairman Ademola Adeyemi-Bero said Nigeria should be producing up to 4 million barrels per day, far above its 1.5 mbpd quota.

Speaking at the Heirs Energies’ Leadership Discourse in Abuja, he stressed that Nigeria must prove its ability to increase output.Adeyemi-Bero praised Nigeria’s rise to 1.7 mbpd in January, calling it a strong signal.

“With our reserves, Nigeria shouldn’t be below 2 mbpd. We should reach 2.5 to 4 million. OPEC and the world believe this, but we must prove it,” he said.He noted that while OPEC’s secretariat handles key tasks, final approvals rest with the board.Adeyemi-Bero, as OPEC Board Chair, ensures the agenda aligns with key priorities and prepares matters for the conference.

He pledged to help Nigeria reach its 2.1 mbpd quota, emphasizing the need to achieve it properly before engaging OPEC peers.Petroleum Minister Heineken Lokpobiri said President Tinubu’s reforms are strengthening the oil sector.Lokpobiri said bureaucratic delays in contract approvals are gone, aiding oil production growth.“President Tinubu’s leadership has driven key reforms.

Previously, bureaucracy caused delays, but now, no document stays on my desk for over 24 hours once recommended by NUPRC,” he stated.
