NNPCL is troubled by the foul fuel supply issue affecting the downstream sector.GCEO Mele Kyari dismissed claims of substandard fuel, calling it bad marketing, at the NMGS Conference. He assured there are no quality issues with PMS in Nigeria.Kyari called the fuel quality debate “drama” and bad marketing.

He noted PMS standards vary by country—Europe requires oxygenates, but in Nigeria, they turn to water on contact with air.Kyari affirmed that regulators like SON and NMDPRA ensure fuel meets standards, with no reports of substandard products.

NNPCL has taken legal action against false claims, warning that misinformation harms the entire country.Kyari dismissed claims of NNPCL importing 200M liters of fuel in February as false and baseless. He noted that fuel importation is standard worldwide, even in nations with refineries.

He urged NMGS members to adopt new technologies to boost resource utilization and revenue. The conference, themed “Transforming Minerals, Energy, Water & Construction Through Innovation,” focused on mining reforms, policy improvements, and geoscience’s role in national development.
