India Reaches 100 GW Solar Capacity

India surpasses 100 GW solar capacity, advancing toward its 500 GW clean energy goal by 2030.As of Jan. 31, 2025, total solar capacity reached 100.33 GW, with 84.10 GW under implementation and 47.49 GW in tendering. Hybrid and RTC projects add to 296.59 GW in total.Minister Pralhad Joshi credited solar initiatives for India’s green energy progress, making the nation self-reliant and a global leader.

The minister highlighted the PM SuryaGhar Muft Bijli Yojana, which is making residential rooftop solar more accessible. Over the past decade, India’s solar capacity has surged by 3,450%, rising from 2.82 GW in 2014 to 100 GW in 2025.Solar energy now makes up 47% of India’s total renewable capacity.

In 2024, the country added a record 24.5 GW of solar power—more than twice the amount installed in 2023. Utility-scale solar saw remarkable growth, reaching 18.5 GW in 2024, nearly 2.8 times the previous year’s total.

Rajasthan, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh were the top contributors to this expansion.India’s solar module production grew from 2 GW in 2014 to 60 GW by 2024. With strong policy support, it aims for 100 GW by 2030.
