TotalEnergies has signed a contract with Stena Drilling for the use of its Stena DrillMax drillship, which will be utilized for operations offshore Suriname.
Under the agreement, Stena DrillMax will conduct managed pressure drilling on an exploration well in Suriname in collaboration with TotalEnergies EP Suriname.
The drilling program is scheduled to commence in the second quarter of 2025 and includes an option for extension, allowing for the drilling of up to three additional wells within the same offshore area in Suriname. This potential extension provides flexibility for further exploration and development activities, depending on operational needs and project outcomes.
In a statement, Stena Drilling expressed enthusiasm about the contract award and the opportunity to collaborate with TotalEnergies on this offshore campaign. “Stena Drilling is delighted to secure this work with TotalEnergies and looks forward to working closely with their team to ensure the successful execution of a safe, effective, and efficient drilling campaign,” the company stated.
The Stena DrillMAX is a highly advanced, sixth-generation drillship designed for harsh environmental conditions. Equipped with dual-activity capabilities and a dynamic positioning system (DP3), the vessel is engineered to maintain stability and precise positioning during drilling operations. It is capable of drilling in ultra-deepwater environments, with the ability to operate at water depths of up to 10,000 feet. This makes it well-suited for complex offshore drilling projects like those planned in Suriname, where deepwater exploration is a key focus.
