Scaffold Collapse at Texas LNG Plant Claims Lives of Three Workers

Three workers lost their lives and two others were injured when a section of scaffolding collapsed early Tuesday at a liquefied natural gas facility under construction by Sempra in Texas.According to Captain Crystal Holmes of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 2 a.m. at the Port Arthur LNG site.

The two injured individuals were rescued from the top of the collapsed structure, while the three deceased fell several stories.Bechtel Group, the engineering firm employing the workers, has suspended operations at the site, located approximately 85 miles east of Houston.Sempra, based in San Diego, stated that the injured workers were taken to the hospital.

The incident is currently under investigation by regulators and local authorities, with Bechtel confirming its full cooperation.Construction on the plant began in 2023, with completion targeted for 2027 or 2028. Sempra has not provided a timeline for when work at the site will resume.The incident was initially reported by a local news outlet.
