Nigerian companies are developing brownfield oil assets to boost production and reduce emissions. Intrepid Energy Limited has partnered with the UK’s Aquaterra Energy to deploy subsea well intervention equipment in Nigeria.
CEO Seun Alonge stated that the collaboration enhances efficiency, maximizes asset performance, and creates long-term value.Experts highlight the benefits of brownfield oil developments, which, with the right technology, can enhance oil recovery and support Nigeria’s refining capacity. Unlike greenfield projects, brownfield developments reduce carbon footprints and align with sustainability goals.
Key interventions include e-line, slick line, coiled tubing, well remediation, and idle well management. Well intervention activities range from well conversion and slot recovery to drilling and completion. To expand brownfield projects, Nigeria is fostering partnership between the private sector, local communities and the government.
