A gas leak and process disruption at Associated Gas Gathering (AGG) facilities near Port Harcourt, specifically in Obigbo and Agbada, have led to a significant electricity shortage in the Aba Ring-fenced Area, covering nine LGAs in Abia State.

The severity of the incident at Agbada prompted Heirs Energies, operator of OML 17, to halt gas supply to the 188MW Geometric Power Plant, which supplies electricity to Aba Power for distribution in the affected areas.Chukwueke stated earlier today that gas supply had to be suspended to promptly address the issues at the AGG facilities.

Speaking by phone, Ugo Opiegbe, Managing Director of Aba Power, confirmed that the utility has been operating with only 25MW from the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) since the embedded power plant ceased supply yesterday.“This represents only a small portion of our generation capacity, as each of our three turbines is capable of producing 47MW,” he noted.

Regretting the timing of the disruption during the Easter holidays, Opiegbe assured that every effort is being made to fully restore power supply between today and tomorrow to ensure residents can continue enjoying the holiday period.
