FG aims for 4,000MW grid expansion by 2026 through EPC – Adelabu.

Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu announced that the Federal Government aims to increase Nigeria’s grid capacity by 4,000MW by 2026. This will be achieved through collaboration with reputable Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) companies, following a new strategic plan approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He stated that the president approved the distribution scope to be handled by other reputable EPC companies with the necessary technical, financial, and financing capabilities.”The strategic decisions aim to boost grid capacity by 4,000MW by the end of 2026, with an additional aspirational target of 2,000MW, as directed by the president.

“The implementation of the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI) began with the installation of 10 power transformers and 10 mobile substations across Nigeria in October 2023. Minister Adelabu highlighted that the current administration has revitalized the Siemens Power Project, accelerating progress since taking office in 2023.

He noted that significant strides have been made under this administration, with visible improvements in power supply for key sectors.Under the current administration, significant progress has been made in the power sector, including the installation of 10 power transformers and 10 mobile substations as part of the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI), completed in October 2023.

The government also initiated the main phase of the PPI in 2024 and increased transmission capacity by over 700MW, improving electricity supply to key sectors. Minister Adelabu emphasized the government’s commitment to delivering tangible results, noting that the Tinubu-led administration has strengthened the Siemens Power Project with clearer timelines and strong implementation strategies.

The Siemens Power Project, launched in 2018, aims to reform Nigeria’s power infrastructure, and the government has signed an Acceleration Agreement with Siemens to fast-track progress.
