
The Federal Government is in advanced talks to establish Nigeria’s first Renewable Energy University in collaboration with development partners.
Speaking at a roundtable with the Lagos State Government, Abba Aliyu, CEO of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), revealed that the university—intended to be the first green university in Africa—has no confirmed location yet, though Lagos is a potential site.
Additionally, the REA plans to set up a renewable asset management company, with its location also undecided.The Federal Government, through the Minister of Power, has approved the establishment of a Renewable Asset Management Company, which will oversee and sustain renewable energy assets nationwide.
Valued at N1 trillion, the company’s location is yet to be determined.Meanwhile, REA CEO Abba Aliyu requested approval from the Lagos State Government to develop Nigeria’s first floating solar power plant at the University of Lagos, proposing an 8-megawatt installation to address land scarcity.
Lagos Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat expressed the state’s interest in hosting the upcoming Renewable Energy University.
