
The Federal Government signed a $328.8 million deal with China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) to rehabilitate and expand Nigeria’s electricity transmission network under Phase 1 of the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI). The agreement covers the development of 330kV and 132kV transmission lines to enhance grid reliability and reduce stranded capacity.The Federal Government signed a $328.8 million deal with CMEC to improve Nigeria’s power supply.
The project, managed by FGN Power Company, includes 544 km of transmission lines with a 7,140 MW capacity under Phase 1 of the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI). Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, confirmed the agreement covers both brownfield and greenfield sites.He stated that these projects will serve as key channels for delivering more power to homes, businesses, and industries, strengthening the economy.
The Power Minister called the project a crucial step to resolve Nigeria’s power transmission bottlenecks, ensuring efficient delivery to end-users.
He highlighted the government’s commitment to stable electricity. FGN Power’s MD, Kenny Anuwe, called the CMEC partnership vital for a robust transmission network, complementing Siemens Energy’s work on generation and high-voltage transmission. SINOMACH’s VP, Li Xiaoyu, thanked the government, emphasizing the project’s role in improving electricity delivery.
