Brighton, England – Brighton & Hove Albion have reached an agreement to sign highly-rated winger Tommy Watson from Sunderland.

Brighton Secure Deal for Sunderland's Tommy Watson

The 18-year-old will remain with Sunderland for the remainder of the current season before officially joining Brighton when the summer transfer window opens.

Watson has agreed to a long-term contract with the Seagulls.

The transfer fee is understood to be in the region of £10 million. Brighton have been tracking Watson for some time and this deal brings an end to a long-running transfer saga.

Sunderland will also benefit from a sell-on clause as part of the agreement.

Brighton’s Technical Director, David Weir, commented: “Tommy is an exciting young talent who we have been tracking for a significant period of time.

He’s had an excellent breakthrough season with Sunderland, and we are looking forward to him joining us in the summer.

However, for now his full focus is on helping them finish their season as strongly as possible.”
