A Ukrainian drone strike set fire to a Russian oil depot linked to the damaged Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) station. The depot in Kavkazskaya halted operations early Wednesday. It previously sent crude to the Kropotkinskaya station, which shut down in mid-February.
The attack followed a discussion between Putin and Trump on the Ukraine war, where Putin rejected a 30-day ceasefire but considered a mutual pause on energy strikes.Russia launched a massive drone attack on Kyiv and other parts of Ukraine, targeting energy infrastructure, Zelenskiy said. The CPC pipeline, a key route for Kazakh and Russian crude exports, remains operational despite vulnerabilities.
While repairs continue at the Kropotkinskaya station, Transneft PJSC warned the oil depot attack could impact operations.The facility supplied 1.51 million tons last year, with 2025’s revised target at 1.13 million tons (≈23,000 barrels/day), per Transneft. It claimed Kyiv’s strike after the Putin-Trump call aimed to derail peace.
However, lost volumes are minimal, as CPC flows exceed 1 million barrels/day.If Trump’s plan to halt mutual attacks on energy infrastructure succeeds, it would lower risks for Russian and Kazakh oil exports via pipelines like Druzhba and CPC. It would also help Russian refineries, which have faced frequent Ukrainian drone strikes this year.
