GECF launched the 9th Global Gas Outlook 2050 on March 10, highlighting Africa’s growing LNG potential and its role in the global gas market. The report projects a 15% growth in Africa’s gas reserves by 2030 and a steady global gas demand increase of 1.5% CAGR until then.

By 2050, natural gas will supply 26% of global energy, with demand rising 32% to 5.1 trillion cubic meters. GECF Secretary Mohamed Hamel emphasized gas as a key part of the energy future, with member countries expected to supply half of global gas needs. Africa, the Middle East, and Eurasia will drive 87% of production growth. The GECF Global Gas Outlook 2050 offers key insights for policymakers and investors on the future of energy markets.

Launched at a crucial time, it highlights the need for energy sector adaptation while ensuring security, sustainability, and economic growth. Despite progress, energy poverty remains a challenge, with natural gas playing a vital role in addressing global needs, said Sheik Mishal bin Jabor Al-Thani.
