An oil tanker and a cargo ship collided off the UK coast, causing fires on both vessels, according to the coastguard. The tanker, identified as Stena Immaculate, was shown ablaze in BBC footage.
The UK’s Maritime and Coastguard Agency is coordinating the emergency response, involving a rescue helicopter and lifeboats. Pollution assessment is ongoing.
According to shipping analytics firm Kpler, the tanker was transporting refined oil fuel from Greece to the Immingham terminal on the UK’s east coast.Stena Bulk, listed in maritime databases as the vessel’s manager, directed inquiries to a ship manager in the US.
However, a call to the company outside regular business hours was not immediately answered.
