Exxon Mobil plans to boost natural gas production in Guyana and explore export options, according to country manager Alistair Routledge.Guyana has become the world’s fastest-growing major oil producer, but the government is urging Exxon to maximize its natural gas use.

Routledge introduced the “Wales Gas Vision,” proposing gas from the Longtail development be used for fertilizer, alumina production, and data centers.Exxon aims to finalize its investment decision on Longtail next year, targeting a 2029 launch with gas output reaching 1.2 billion cubic feet per day.

Exxon ruled out a pipeline to Trinidad for LNG exports, calling it “cost prohibitive,” but is exploring alternative ways to sell Guyana’s gas globally, said country manager Alistair Routledge at the Guyana Energy Conference.“There is still potential to use LNG technology to connect with global markets,” he noted, adding that this option is under review.

The Wales Gas Vision is separate from Guyana’s gas-to-energy project, for which Exxon has already built an underwater pipeline for power generation. Routledge emphasized that these plans depend on various factors.
