Lecce President Reveals Man United's Determination in Dorgu Signing: "They Really Wanted Him Now"

Damiani explained that Lecce had hoped to retain Dorgu’s services for another season, even attempting to reach an agreement with Manchester United that would allow him to stay with the Italian club on loan.

However, United’s strong desire to secure Dorgu’s signature immediately, coupled with interest from Sporting Lisbon coach Ruben Amorim, ultimately proved decisive.

“We tried to keep Patrick Dorgu and agree with Man United for next season,” Damiani stated, “but they really wanted him now.”

He further emphasized the intensity of United’s pursuit, saying, “There was no other way, Dorgu was a key target for them and for Amorim.”

Damiani also acknowledged Dorgu’s own desire to make the move, stating, “Patrick wanted to go and we closed this historical sale.”

This last comment suggests that the transfer fee received by Lecce was significant, highlighting the value Manchester United placed on the young player.

Damiani’s comments paint a picture of a club determined to acquire their target, leaving Lecce with little option but to accept the transfer.
