WAPCo announces major scheduled maintenance for the West African Gas Pipeline.Due to significant asset repairs, there will be a temporary reduction in the major gas supply from Nigeria to key West African countries, impacting the flow of gas across the region during the maintenance period.

The scheduled maintenance involves pigging and in-line inspection of the 569 km offshore pipeline, stretching from Ajido in Lagos State, Nigeria, to Takoradi in Ghana’s Western Region.

It also includes the replacement of vital subsea valves at Tema (Ghana) and Cotonou (Benin) to improve operational safety. This maintenance, set to occur from February 5 to March 2, 2025, will temporarily halt certain services, such as the reverse flow of natural gas from Ghana’s Western Region to Tema, and gas transportation from Nigeria to Cotonou, Lomé (Togo), and Tema.

However, gas transportation from Nigeria to Takoradi will remain operational to facilitate the pipeline cleaning and inspection processes. The cleaning and inspection of the West African Gas Pipeline (WAGP) is a key regulatory requirement, ensuring safe and efficient operation.

The process, split into two phases, began with the onshore section in Nigeria in December 2024 and will continue with the offshore section from February 5, 2025.WAPCo conducts these inspections every five years to maintain pipeline integrity. The company appreciates the support of governments, maritime and regulatory authorities, stakeholders, and communities in making this project a success.
