Nigeria’s Ngozi Okobi-Okeoghene has made a heroic return to football, signing with Ottawa Rapid FC in Canada’s new Northern Super League (NSL) just four months after giving birth to her son, Nathan.

The 31-year-old midfielder, a four-time WAFCON champion with 75 national team caps, balances motherhood with midfield mastery, proving elite sport and parenthood can coexist.

Okobi’s move to Ottawa Rapid FC marks her as the first African international in the NSL, elevating the league’s global profile.

Known for her creativity and 1v1 dominance, her signing is a coup for the club. “Her vision and leadership will inspire our squad,” said technical director Kristina Kiss.

Okobi’s career spans top leagues in the NWSL (Washington Spirit), Sweden, and Spain, and her experience will anchor Ottawa’s debut NSL season.

Welcoming her son in September 2024, Okobi paused briefly but never stepped back.

Her social media posts celebrating Nathan’s arrival and her return to training resonated globally, challenging stereotypes about athletes and motherhood.

Married since 2017, she’s long balanced personal and professional demands—even playing for Nigeria weeks after her wedding.

Though she missed the 2023 World Cup and 2024 Olympics due to pregnancy, her comeback symbolizes resilience.

Ngozi Okobi-Okeoghene’s story isn’t just about football—it’s about grit, love, and rewriting norms. As she kicks off this new chapter, fans worldwide cheer for a player who refuses to let motherhood dim her shine.
