He spent his entire club career in France, representing teams such as Martigues, Valenciennes, Lens, Istres, and Chamois Niortais. After hanging up his boots, Chelle transitioned into coaching, starting as an assistant manager at GS Consolat in France. He quickly moved up the ranks to become a head coach, managing clubs like FC Martigues and US Boulogne. Though his coaching experience has largely been in the French lower leagues, his ability to adapt and lead earned him a call to the international stage.

4. Success with Mali’s National Team

Chelle took the reins of the Malian national team in May 2022. During his tenure, he led Mali to the quarter-finals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where they were narrowly defeated by Ivory Coast after a penalty shootout. Despite this success, his time with Mali ended in June 2024 following a disappointing World Cup qualifier against Madagascar. This blend of highs and lows gives him valuable lessons as he steps into his new role.

5. A Historic Appointment for Nigerian Football

Chelle’s appointment as the Super Eagles’ head coach is a historic moment, as he is the first non-Nigerian African to hold the position.
